Position Summary The Welding Inspector role is a key part of the overall production and quality operation.
The primary duties include visual weld inspection the AWS D1.
1 criteria.
Non Destructive Testing of welds by Ultrasound, Magnetic Particle and leak testing are also required.

Essential Duties, Skills, Abilities Ability to work approximately 45 to 55 hours per week.
Ability to receive feedback and learn from others.
Measure completed workpieces to verify conformance to prints using appropriate gauges.
Examine completed work pieces for defects and verify compliance to code or customer specifications.
Read Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) to determine specifications for Hold Points to perform inspection.
Thoroughly and legibly report inspection results on company forms.
Be able to balance several projects and understand each has a different requirement for inspection and testing.
Read and understand company Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
Read and understand structural steel blueprints for both dimensional and welding symbols.
Perform welder certification tests including plate preparation (beveling, grinding and tack welding) witnessing welding by person being tested, evaluate for visual acceptance and preparing weld bend/ break tests by sawing, grinding macro etch and bending.
Be able to work independently but willing to consult with management, other QC inspectors or production personnel when unsure of a result.
Be confident, honest, ethical and most importantly respectful when making judgment on the quality of our product.
Perform in house calibrations on measuring devices and inspection tools used throughout the shop.
Perform and log random sampling of product quality.
Be willing to fill in for any area in QC where help is needed.
Some examples would be blast cleaning inspection prior to paint or paint inspection.
Also, there may be times when asked to visit sub-fabrication shops that are working for Merrill.
Education and Experience Current American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector.
Any Nondestructive Testing Certifications beneficial (primarily UT or MT).
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
